Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about selling your enterprise IT equipment to SellMyServer.com.

Getting Started

What types of equipment do you buy?

We purchase enterprise-grade servers, storage arrays, networking equipment, and components from major manufacturers including Dell, HPE, Cisco, Lenovo, IBM, and Supermicro. We buy rack servers, blade servers, tower servers, SAN/NAS storage systems, switches, routers, firewalls, and individual components like CPUs, memory, drives, and GPUs.

How do I get a quote for my equipment?

Simply submit a quote request with photos, spreadsheets, or a description of your equipment. Our team will review the details and respond within 24 hours with a competitive offer.

How do you determine pricing?

Our team analyzes your equipment details -- including make, model, age, and condition -- against current market data to provide a fair offer. We track thousands of transactions across secondary markets to ensure our pricing reflects actual fair market value.

Do you buy individual items or only bulk lots?

We buy both individual items and bulk lots. Whether you have a single server or an entire data center to decommission, we are happy to provide a quote. Larger lots may qualify for additional benefits like free on-site pickup.

What if my equipment has no commercial value?

No problem -- we are happy to take a look regardless. Even if your equipment is not something we can make a direct offer on for reuse, we work with trusted recycling partners to make sure your items are responsibly disposed of in a safe manner. You will never be left wondering what to do with your surplus gear.

What condition does equipment need to be in?

We purchase equipment in all conditions -- working, non-working, end-of-life, or decommissioned. Naturally, working equipment in good condition commands higher prices, but we will make an offer on virtually any enterprise-grade hardware.

Pricing & Payment

How do you determine equipment value?

We evaluate equipment based on current market demand, manufacturer, model, age, condition, configuration (CPU, RAM, storage), and quantity. Our pricing reflects real-time secondary market data to ensure you receive a fair and competitive offer.

How quickly will I get paid?

We typically process payment within 3-5 business days after receiving and inspecting your equipment. For pre-verified lots where condition matches the description, payment can be even faster.

What payment methods do you offer?

We offer payment via ACH bank transfer, company check, or wire transfer. For larger transactions, we can accommodate your preferred payment method. Payment terms are confirmed as part of your quote acceptance.

Is there a minimum value for transactions?

There is no strict minimum, but transactions under $500 in estimated value may not qualify for free pickup. We are happy to provide quotes for any quantity and can arrange cost-effective shipping options for smaller lots.

Logistics & Shipping

Do you offer free pickup?

Yes, we offer free on-site pickup for qualifying lots in the continental United States. Qualifying lots are typically valued at $2,000 or more. For smaller lots, we provide discounted shipping labels and can coordinate logistics on your behalf.

What areas do you serve?

We serve the entire United States. We are based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas and can arrange local pickup or nationwide shipping. For large decommission projects, our logistics team can manage the entire process on-site.

How is equipment shipped?

For shipped equipment, we provide pre-paid shipping labels via FedEx or UPS. Palletized shipments are arranged through LTL freight carriers. Our team provides packing guidance to ensure equipment arrives safely.

Who is responsible for packing?

For shipped items, the seller is responsible for packing equipment securely. We provide detailed packing instructions and can supply packing materials for large lots. For on-site pickups, our team handles all packing and loading.

Data Security

How do you handle data on drives?

Data security is our top priority. All storage media can be certified-wiped or physically destroyed in compliance with NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2 guidelines through ExpungeData. We offer both data wiping (for reusable drives) and physical destruction (for end-of-life media). Ask us about data sanitization options for your specific compliance needs.

What is NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2?

NIST Special Publication 800-88 Rev. 2 provides guidelines for establishing a media sanitization program and selecting appropriate sanitization methods based on data sensitivity, media type, validation, and disposition.

Can I get a certificate of destruction?

Yes, we provide a Certificate of Data Sanitization for all media processed through our data sanitization service. The certificate includes serial numbers, sanitization method used, date of processing, and verification details for your compliance records.

Do you offer on-site data wiping?

Yes, for organizations with strict data security policies, we can perform on-site data wiping before equipment leaves your facility. Contact us to discuss on-site data sanitization options and scheduling.
